For all Adult fans of "Road House"…

Like I said in the previous post for the “Road House” onesie, my goal for a while was to design a pretty sweet T-Shirt for this movie.  I started with the onesie because I had an idea what I wanted to do for that, but the shirt was still up in the air.  Browsing the google images for Swayze, I found a picture that I liked and figured I could do something to.  The end result…totally sweet:

First Week Being a Parent!

Its hard to believe that a week has gone by already since the birth of Amelia.  I’ll attribute that to the insane lack of sleep.  Its no joke!  You hear stories from parents telling stories about how you don’t get any sleep when you have a newborn, but I guess I didn’t take that in a literal sense.  You literally don’t get any sleep!  You can’t! The kid needs to eat every 2-3 hours.  Apparently this lasts about 3-4 weeks, and then your sleep window grows another 1-2 hours.  I’ll take it!

A few things I’ve learned being a new parent in week 1:

1) Babies love to eat.  Basically they say, if the kid is hungry then you feed it until its full.  Amelia is not shy when showing that shes hungry.  She does this mouth motion where she mimics eating.  That eventually evolves into chomping and sucking on her own hand…..which is then shortly followed by crying with an angry face.  Basically you want to recognize that shes hungry before you get to that point or else she starts to act like a little zombie.

2) Babies really love to shit, and perform surprise attacks with shits.  We have discovered that its not at all difficult to tell if a baby shits itself.  Besides the obvious horrendous smell, there is the ever amusing (at least with our kid) straightening of the legs, rigid stiff stretch of the limbs, face red, furrowed brows, and a loud wet fart.  Similar to the end of the ketchup bottle.  Once you hear and see this event unfold, its time to change the diaper.  This is where things get tricky.  We have learned to let the baby “shit it out”.  She needs a second to fully unload.  If you guess wrong, then you peel off the diaper and while preparing for a new one…..blam!  A hand full of propelled shits followed by a blank stare and a gassy grin.  You would think its super gross (and it is), but its surprisingly overshadowed by just how hilarious this cute little being is that is performing the act.

3) Our baby sticks to a routine. Throughout the day she eats nicely and then just passes out.  At night, she chooses to all of a sudden consume way more food, eat way slower, and create as many challenges as she can before she gives in and passes out.  Long nights.

So in week 1, these are the major things we have discovered being new parents.  Its frightening, but pretty amazing at the same time.

The Roku 3!

I’m a tech geek, not to the point where I’m just blowing cash on stupid devices for no reason, but I indulge in technology when there are new advances in things that I love, typically viewing entertainment.  The Roku 3 is definitely a step towards perfection for a media box.

We first got the Roku 2 a little over a year ago and I did a review of it on this blog.  Over time, I became less impressed with it as it frequently gave me problems and had a difficult time latching onto a strong wireless connection.  It was pretty annoying, but I dealt with it.  When we lost the remote for it when packing, I used it as a good excuse to replace it with the Roku 3.  I was interested in this device for a number of reasons, two being: the great reviews on Amazon and the Wifi Booster (I don’t think its technically called that, but you get the idea).  With the terrible reception of the wifi the first time around, I wanted something with some balls this time around.  So I took a chance with the Roku 3.
The Roku 3 retails at about $99.00 and is the Cadillac of the Roku products.  It comes with a remote that is cable of motion control actions when playing Roku App Games, and also has the ability to plug in headphones to watch a movie, and the headphones plug right into the remote.  This option is pretty awesome if you want to crank some stereo sound while your kid is sleeping.  I’m sure I’ll be trying this out in my future.
I am a month into using this little gem and I am super impressed.  So impressed that we have cut the chord on cable/satellite.  No more nonsense cable bill!  In reality, I turned the cable box on for 1 reason, sports.  I watch Hockey and Football. With the Roku I was able to get the NHL Gamecenter Live Package (which I will review later this week).  This allowed me to get my hockey in HD, and gave me the excuse I needed to get rid of my cable provider.
The Roku 3 works flawlessly with Neflix, Amazon Prime, and all other apps I have tried.  It is a great step in the “a la carte” direction that entertainment is going in, and with the Spotify App, its almost the complete package.

Punk Rock Alert!

Musically I am stuck in the 90’s, and with my wife home on maternity leave, she is quick to send me text messages from the first floor of our home (I work on the 3rd floor) mocking me out with comments like “1998 all day”.  Like Metallica once said, “Sad but true”.  My roots have always been punk rock, and for that genre, I find that there aren’t too many new bands worth listening to. The “Heartsounds” are an exception to that opinion.  This band is awesome, straight up.  I blogged way back about their album “Drifter”, which was my intro album to this band; blogging about how great I thought the album was.  Members of this band, (formally the band “Light this City”) started Heartsounds to pursue their love for punk music.  “Light this City” was more new metal, a genre that isn’t easy to separate yourself from other bands (a polite way of saying that it all sounds the same and is mostly shit), however, even “Light this City” has flashes of makes Heartsounds a great band.  The guitar work is incredibly solid, reminding me of bands like “No Use for a Name” with the composition complexity of “Lagwagon”.  If you were a fan of early 90’s punk music, this band is phenomenal. Their new album is looking to be no different.  They have leaked 3 songs (that I know of) off their upcoming October 15th album, “Internal Eyes”, and each one is more awesome than the next.  These days, I rarely sit around anticipating the release date of a new record, but this one I eagerly await.

Here are the 2 songs off “Internal Eyes” that they have released to wet the pallet:

If you enjoy listening to music from the glory days and can’t really crank it up anymore because of an infant, your infant might as well listen with you while it wears this:

Can’t get this out of my mind…

I have a lot on my mind these days.  The major one is that I have a kid on the way that is due any day now.  I also have the holiday rush here at supersweetshirts.com happening any day now as well.  With all of this going on, there is a third thing that was brought to my attention just this week that I cannot get out of my mind as well….

Let’s talk about how awesome this is.   Of course my primary reason for blogging is to occasionally mention the awesome products at supersweetshirts.com and also at our etsy store , but occasionally a product comes around that is well deserved of a third party plug.  “TapIt Cap” is worthy of this.  Its like a mini draft system for your home.  I love growlers, but a big reason as to why I don’t get them more often, is because I can’t finish it up fast enough to maintain the freshness.  Let me modify that statement, I CAN finish a growler without a problem, but maybe I just want a pint or two?  Maybe every time I open a growler, I don’t want to get bombed.  This device will keep your growler fresh and let you drink at your own leisure!  Genius! The best part?  Its not even that expensive retailing at 45.00 at Tapitcap.com .  This is a great gift for any beer lover!  On a side note, the perfect gift to go along with this would be:

Something Awesome For the Fall.

If you read this blog frequently or actually know me in real life, you know that I love beers.  I am an IPA guy but have been trying to branch out, and try more of a variety of beers.  The fall is a particularly great time to do this because the seasonal selections are just awesome.  Normally my “go to” beer is the Southern Tier Pumking, perhaps the best pumpkin beer I’ve ever had.  This year my favorite fall beverage (so far) goes to Woodchuck’s Cellar Series Dry-Hop.  This is actually a hard cider, but its amazing.  I’ve really branched out this year with trying ciders because there are so many varieties available, each more daring then the next.  Some fall short in being any good, while some are just fantastic.  This one is fantastic.

These days, you need to be careful when you see a beverage product hyping an infusion of hops, its not something everyone can pull off.  I had no idea what this thing was going to taste like, but I trusted the folks at Woodchuck, because aside from their disgusting Pumpkin Cider, everything else I’ve had from them is always tasty.*
The Cellar Series Dry Hop is incredibly crisp, in fact I found it to almost be on par with a sparkling wine, but with tons of flavor.  The “Dry Hop” is definitely there but its not overly offensive, its actually perfect.  The best part about this delicious gem, is that its only about $4.95 a bomber (and I bought it at a place that’s typically a little over priced).
Definitely give this a shot before the fall is over with, it’s worth a taste!

*The Woodchuck 802 really incredible as well.  I have only seen it available as part of the fall variety pack and not as a standalone 6 or 12.
